Redline Racing Wins At Snetterton As Zamparelli Takes Championship Lead
Redline Racing’s Dino Zamparelli has moved into the championship lead in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB after taking a third win of the season so far, while team-mate Fraser Robertson also produced an impressive display in changing conditions at Snetterton (28/29 July).
The Teeside-based squad headed into the meeting with a successful track record at Snetterton having won seven of the last eight Carrera Cup GB races in Norfolk, and Zamparelli had his sights set on continuing that streak to add to his six podium finishes over the first half of the season.
The 25 year old would enjoy two productive days of testing in the lead up to the event, which provided the perfect platform for a great performance in qualifying as he secured second on the grid in the Nationwide Repairs Centre Porsche.
A change of weather overnight meant that there was a wet circuit for the opening race on Sunday morning, conditions that the Anglo-Italian would go on to excel in as he stormed straight into the race lead and led from start-to-finish with a faultless display.
The Bristol-based racer would go on to line up fifth for the reverse grid final race in front of the live ITV4 television cameras, with a great performance seeing him pick his way through to third place in the early stages before holding it to the finish for an eighth podium of the year.
Dino Zamparelli: “The Nationwide Redline Racing car was fantastic all weekend and I’m pleased I could reward the team with a pair of podium finishes in tricky, changing conditions. We had some bad luck in the first half of the year, but we were back on form this weekend which is hugely positive and I’m confident that will continue over the rest of the season.”
Robertson meanwhile showed great progression over the course of the meeting as he continues to learn the ropes in his maiden Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign, with the Scotsman qualifying a strong seventh in the AM class.
A brilliant first race saw Robertson getting into the thick of the action amongst a thrilling class battle, emerging in fifth place to match his best result of the season so far, before he was unfortunately not classified in the final results for race two after a strong drive.
Fraser Robertson:“It was a great weekend. I was finding nearly a second in time during each session we were on track, and I feel like I’m starting to really get there with the car. I loved the first race, having some proper battles on track, and hopefully there’s more to come this season.”
The Porsche Carrera Cup GB is back in action in four weeks’ time as it makes the annual trip north of the border to Knockhill in Scotland for Rounds Eleven and Twelve of the 2018 campaign.
Simon Leonard – Team Boss:“We’re delighted to have come back from the long summer break and enjoyed such a positive weekend. Dino [Zamparelli] was on top form and really make a statement of intent for the remainder of the season.
“He took control of the first race and produced a true masterclass in the conditions, which he backed up with another impressive performance in race two. Now we have the championship lead, we have no intention of giving it up.
“Fraser [Robertson] is making some fantastic progress in his first season and this was another really positive weekend for him. He’s getting quicker every time he gets out on track and a class podium is certainly not out of his reach by the end of the season.”
