Valluga Racing Sign Lewis Plato For Porsche Carrera Cup GB Title Challenge

Valluga Racing have signed leading talent Lewis Plato, one of the most successful drivers in recent Porsche Carrera Cup GB history, to spearhead their title challenge in the championship this year. After establishing themselves as a front-running force in the Carrera Cup GB last year with multiple podium finishes in both the Pro-Am and Am classes, the Silverstone-based squad is determined to kick on and challenge right at the front of the field this season. Plato holds similar ambitions as he looks the build upon three consecutive top five championship finishes, with the 26 year old from Essex looking to take the next step in the fastest one-make series in the UK and mount a full assault on the overall drivers title. A consistent front-runner in the championship since his debut in 2016, Plato has accrued an impressive tally of 20 podium finishes across the last three seasons. Three of those have been race victories, with his most recent success coming at Croft last year. Benji Hetherington - Team Principal: “After a fantastic first season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB last year, we came into 2020 determined to move up to the next level and challenge for overall success. In Lewis [Plato], we’ve found the perfect driver to achieve that with. “I’ve known Lewis for a long time now, and I knew he’d be a natural fit for the team with all his experience from working in the motorsport industry for many years. He has superb raw pace and impressive racecraft, which makes him a real threat at the front of the grid. “As a team, we’re confident we can provide a package that will enable him to go on and enjoy that success. Competing in the Carrera Cup GB is fantastic for our business as a whole too, with the knowledge and expertise we gain from racing filtering through to all aspects of our work.” Lewis Plato: “I am looking forward to starting another season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. It is a fantastic championship and one which I love to race in. For 2020, the challenge of working with a new team is something which I am really excited about. “While Valluga Racing are a fairly new team to the championship, they proved last season that they are a professional outfit that can provide a winning package. They are hungry to succeed, and with this comes motivation and the drive to win. “My ambitions for the season ahead is the same as every year; I want to go out and collect as many podium finishes and race wins as possible, and to hopefully be standing on that top step of the podium at the end of the season.” Formed in 2002, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB races on the highest-profile package in the UK, in support of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship. The 2020 season will be contested over eight events at the leading circuits in the country, including Brands Hatch and Silverstone. The one-make series utilises the current 485hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars and runs a three class format (Pro, Pro Am and Am) to cater for drivers of all experience levels. Racing alongside the BTCC ensures free-to-air live television coverage on ITV4 and average trackside crowds of 38,000 fans per meeting.
