Brea Angliss unfortunately saw recurring mechanical issues limit her track time and opportunity to progress during the latest weekend of the 2023 Ginetta Junior Championship at Donington Park (27/28 May).
The trip to Donington Park provided a fresh start for Angliss as she linked up with Breakell Racing for the first time, however despite a phenomenal effort from her new team, the event was marred by a spree of mechanical problems linking back to previous mismanagement of the car.
Angliss enjoyed a really positive first free practice session on Friday morning, however the emergence of an electrical problem outside of the team’s control limited her running for the remainder of the day and set the tone for the weekend ahead as more longer-term problems crept up.
Firmly on the back foot compared to the other drivers on the grid due to the lost track time, the 15-year-old showcased her tremendous resilience and fighting spirit to maximise every opportunity available to her and learn as much as possible from the weekend.
Angliss started the opening race from the pitlane after a brilliant effort from the team to resolve a last-gasp issue on the car, and she duly produced a composed performance to pounce on mistakes from others and rise to 13th at the chequered flag.
After sadly having to sit out race two, she was back on track for the finale and got right into the thick of the action. Gaining five places on the opening lap alone, she battled on and showed consistent progress in her lap-times en-route to another 13th place result.
The Coventry-based racer has no time to dwell on the weekend’s frustrations as she prepares to tackle the biggest race meeting of the season this weekend, with the inaugural ‘G Fest’ at Silverstone seeing her set to contest six races across the three-day event.
Brea Angliss: “It’s hard not to be gutted with how the weekend has gone. I never really got a chance to get properly going and have some consistent running, but I tried to maximise what track time I did get and picked up a couple of decent race finishes in the end.
“I want to say a huge thank you to the Breakell Racing team for all their hard work. The issues coming up with the car all stemmed from the past and weren’t their fault at all, but they were committed to solving them one-by-one and did a great job.
“I really hope that’s all my bad luck for the season out of the way and we can enjoy some positive outings now. Silverstone next is a circuit I’ve raced on before, so with that experience under my belt I’m confident I can go there and pick up some good results.”
