Rising star Brea Angliss will contest her first season of car-racing this year as she enters the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship with Alastair Rushforth Motorsport.
The talented teenager is looking to make her mark in the UK’s longest running and most prestigious Junior race series, with a promising debut performance in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series last November ensuring she’s one to watch as she joins the ultra-competitive grid of 14-17 year old racers.
Angliss, who turns 15 later this month, enjoyed a fantastic 2022 competing in the British Indoor Karting Championship. From thousands of entrants, she stormed through the local and regional competitions before producing an eye-catching performance in the Grand Final to finish eighth overall.
After combining superb raw speed with a natural flair for overtaking on the kart tracks, she’s replicated those skills behind the wheel of Ginetta G40’s too, having twice impressed the judges to reach the final day of competition in the hotly-contested Ginetta Junior Scholarship events.
That continued as she made her car-racing bow in the Winter Series at Brands Hatch. Her dedication to preparation and determination to improve stood her in good stead as she impressively overcame drivers with considerably more Ginetta experience to finish a high of 12th on two occasions.
After joining them for the Winter Series, Angliss will continue with Alastair Rushforth Motorsport for 2023. The Oxfordshire team has more than 30 years of experience in motorsport and have been a regular competitor in one-make Ginetta racing for a number of years.
The Coventry-based racer will be receiving coaching support this season from her older brother Blake, as she follows in his wheel tracks. Since starting his own car-racing career with Ginetta in 2020, he has enjoyed great success and finished last season as the G55 Pro class runner-up in the GT4 SuperCup.
The siblings have been working closely over the winter months, with an extensive fitness training programme alongside regular karting and simulator sessions meaning Angliss is ready both physically and mentally to hit the ground running when her season starts over the Easter weekend (08-10 April) at Oulton Park.
Brea Angliss: ’“I’m delighted to be competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship this season. The Winter Series was a good introduction to car-racing for me, as I gained valuable experience on all aspects of race weekends, on and off track.
“The Juniors is extremely competitive and a great learning platform, so it will be the perfect stepping stone for me to where I would like to get to in the future. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting year running with Alastair Rushforth Motorsport as they return to the series.
“I’m not heading into the season with specific targets in terms of results and championship finishes. My focus is on maximising every single session on track to develop as a driver and improve my skills and speed each weekend. I can't wait to get started.”
Alastair Rushforth: “I first met Brea during last year’s Junior Scholarship at Blyton Park, and then a chance post on Facebook looking to get a car out for the Winter Series led to a conversation with her father and we managed to agree a deal.
“Brea arrived at the Winter Series having never been in a car anywhere other than Blyton, so our combined goals were simple; enjoy it, what will be, will be. She ended up exceeding all expectations, and by Sunday she was battling with the midfield. From there, I made it very clear I wanted her to race for us in 2023 and I’m delighted it’s come together.”
The 2023 Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship is set to be contested over 27 races across eight events. Six of those will see the Juniors compete on the support package for the British GT Championship, whilst Ginetta are also running two standalone race events of their own.
An exciting schedule will see Brea compete on many of the leading circuits in the UK, including the full Grand Prix configurations at Silverstone, Donington Park and Brands Hatch, with a large number of her races set to be streamed live online via Ginetta’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
