Breakell Racing Set For Expanded Nürburgring Programme In 2023

Breakell Racing will be tackling another exciting race programme on the world-famous Nürburgring Nordschleife this season, including an entry into the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring in a newly-acquired Porsche Cayman GT4.

The 2023 schedule, which will see the Clitheroe-based squad contest three rounds of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) before the 24 Hour extravaganza, continues a decade-long association with the Nürburgring for the team and its owner James Breakell.

The team will be working with rising star Harley Haughton for the NLS campaign. The 18-year-old was a title contender in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge last year, producing a stunning run of five race wins in a row and securing eight pole positions, more than anyone else.

Haughton worked with Breakell and team partner WS Racing back in November to acquire his DMSB Permit Nordschleife (DPN), which allows him to race on the hallowed circuit. That partnership will continue as he utilises the NLS rounds to gain the experience required to upgrade to a Grade A permit.

That will lead into Breakell Racing competing in one of the biggest 24 hour races in the world, which regularly has more than 120 cars battling it out. Haughton will join Breakell, Grant Dalton and Grant Woodford behind the wheel of the team’s new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

This will be Breakell Racing’s second season racing with the two Grants, after a busy 2022 campaign saw them earn their Nordschleife permits alongside outings in the British Endurance Championship and P9 Challenge in the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT4.

James Breakell - Team Principal: “To be racing at the Nürburgring in the NLS series and the 24 hour race this year is another huge leap forward for Breakell Racing. I personally have been racing at the Nürburgring for around 10 years, and every time I go there, I am just blown away by the event, the track and local area, it truly is a very special place.

“This year we will show a presence in the paddock with our race-prepared Porsche Cayman GT4 alongside our friends at WS Racing. They are one of the top teams up at the Nürburgring, who we have been working closely with for years. Thorsten Willems (WS Racing team principal) and his team are always extremely welcoming and do a really good job of everything, so I’m excited for another year of collaborating with them to create an enjoyable experience for our drivers.

“We also have the privilege of helping a young talented driver to conquer the Nürburgring. We are delighted that Harley Haughton has joined the team and we can’t wait to see him show his exceptional driving talent in some endurance races.”

Harley Haughton: "I'm thrilled to be racing at the Nürburgring this year, it is a dream come true to race at such an amazing track. With the brilliant support of Breakell Racing, I am confident we can go and make the most of it!"
