Team Redline Racing Re-Sign Josh Caygill For 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Team Redline Racing have added Josh Caygill to their driver line-up for the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup GB, with the experienced touring car and GT racer set for a long-awaited debut season in the championship.

Caygill initially planned to make his Porsche debut with the Teesside squad last year, however he unfortunately ended up sitting out the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 30 year old will get his opportunity this year though as the latest chapter in a varied career.

Initially competing on motorbikes, the Yorkshireman transitioned to four wheels in 2013 with a spell in tin-top racing. He made a move into GT competition for 2017 and contested two seasons in Blancpain, with the highlight being a class podium finish on home tarmac at Brands Hatch.

Caygill has also contested selected events in the British Touring Car Championship and the VLN Series at the Nürburgring, and he now makes a welcome return to full-time competition with the support of SM UK, Volkswagen Van Centre Leeds, Vancraft, Tysers Insurance and BHP Chartered Accountants.

Simon Leonard – Managing Director: “After a promising pre-season, it was a real shame that Josh wasn’t able to come racing with us last season. That means we’re even more delighted that we could sign a deal with him to come back to Team Redline Racing this year.

“Josh has proven himself to be a quick and versatile driver during his career so far, and he impressed us with how quickly he got to grips with the Porsche during his initial tests with us. He’s ready to make up for lost time now and we’re confident he can have a great year.”

Josh Caygill: “After having to unfortunately cancel my plans to contest the Porsche Carrera Cup GB last year, I’m delighted to have been able to put the deal together to finally enter the series this season with Team Redline Racing.

“The team gave me a great learning environment last year to initially get to grips with the Porsche, and I’m confident that with their support I can keep progressing and getting quicker. It’s an awesome car to drive, unlike anything I’ve raced before.

“I haven’t raced full-time in the UK for a few years now, so it’s good to be back and in such a prestigious and competitive championship. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the action this year and can’t wait to get the season underway.”

Entering its 19th year in 2021, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is one of the most competitive and exciting championships in the UK. Utilising identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, the series has been the launch pad for a number of professional sportscar and GT drivers.

The 2021 season will be contested over eight events at the best circuits in the UK, all in support of the British Touring Car Championship with live television coverage on ITV4. The opening rounds take place at Snetterton in Norfolk on 15/16 May.
