Team Redline Racing concluded its 2022 Porsche Visit Cayman Islands Sprint Challenge GB season with a brilliant victory at Donington Park this past weekend (October 15/16) as Steve Roberts reigned supreme.
One week on from closing out its Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign at Brands Hatch, the Teesside-based outfit had plenty to celebrate at the Leicestershire circuit as Roberts scored a breakthrough win and a second, whilst Jason Pelosi picked up Am Class silverware.
Coming off the back of a string of impressive showings in recent rounds, Roberts, Pelosi and David Stirling used practice to dial in their Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 machines around the 2.48-mile circuit before turning their attention to the weekend.
Qualifying on Saturday morning would see Roberts lead the charge at the front of the field by securing fourth on the grid for the opening contest. Further back, Pelosi looked to make his mark on proceedings by setting the fifth fastest time in the Am Class, with Stirling sixth.
The weekend’s opening contest would see differing fortunes for the drivers. At the front of the field, Roberts came oh-so close to securing hard-fought rostrum finish.
Bouncing back from a poor start, the Pro Class racer fought his way up to second - which was where he would finish on the road - before a post-race penalty for a track limits infringement dropped him to fourth. Stirling came home fifth in class, while Pelosi was an unfortunate retirement just after mid-distance.
Race two saw Roberts have his moment on the podium - and on the top step no less - as he scored a memorable first win. Producing a virtuoso performance to shadow leader Harry Foster all the way to the chequered flag, Roberts would be promoted to first after Foster was hit with a track limits penalty.
In the Am Class, Pelosi put his race one retirement behind him to clinch a superb third place finish; a result he would then repeat in the weekend’s third and final contest. Stirling was fourth in race two.
Roberts signed off his season by adding yet more silverware to his collection in the finale as he hounded Foster all the way to the finish, ultimately settling for second.
Those results ensured that Roberts and Pelosi would finish third overall in their respective categories, whilst Team Redline Racing clinched third place in the Entrant Championship.
Simon Leonard – Managing Director: “What a fantastic way to end our Porsche Sprint Challenge GB season! It’s been a busy week for the entire team but they’ve worked incredibly hard to ensure we’ve closed out the year on a high.
“To see Steve take his first victory of the season was fantastic and fully deserved. He’s been brilliant throughout the year and that was the perfect reward for him. The same can be said for Jason too. He bounced back from a retirement in race one to clinch a well-deserved double podium.
“It’s been a long, rewarding season for Team Redline Racing and the success we’ve enjoyed is only going to serve as a huge motivation for us to come back bigger and better than ever next year.”
