Will Jenkins Steps Up To Ginetta GT5 Challenge For 2022

Motorsport rising star Will Jenkins is taking an exciting next step in his racing career this season as he targets a title challenge in the ultra-competitive Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

After two years of racing in the Ginetta Junior Championship, the Staffordshire racer will be stepping up to senior competition for the first time with the support of Hopkins Motorsport, Asset Alliance Group, Corroconsult UK and Digraph Transport Supplies.

Jenkins remains with Elite Motorsport for a second consecutive season, following a hugely successful year together in 2021. Establishing himself as a leading force through the Juniors campaign, he scored eight overall podium finishes including a memorable maiden win at Silverstone.

While the 17 year old will be racing in a new championship this season, he will once again be behind the wheel of a Ginetta G40. The GT5 Challenge specification of car is an upgrade however, with an increase to 155bhp, a top speed of 130mph and slick tyres.

The 2022 Ginetta GT5 Challenge will be contested across 18 races over seven events, visiting the best circuits in the UK including Donington Park, Oulton Park, Brands Hatch and Silverstone. The series races on each of the two biggest race packages in the UK, alongside the BTCC and British GT.

Will Jenkins: “I am really looking forward to making the step up to the Ginetta GT5 Challenge this season. With the support of my partners and the Elite Motorsport team, I am confident we can have a successful 2022 season.

“After running at the front of the extremely competitive Ginetta Juniors for the last two years, moving up to the GT5 Challenge felt like the natural next step for me. It’s a fantastic platform to continue my career and I look forward to learning and adapting to the GT5 spec car.

“My goals for the season ahead are clear. The team have a great track record in the championship, so with their help and support around me, I’m confident we can run consistently at the front of the field and ultimately come away with the title at the end of the season.

“In order to achieve this goal, I have been working hard over the winter on my fitness, nutrition and simulator sessions to make sure I am as well prepared as possible for the season ahead. We have also set out an extensive pre-season test programme to help me adapt to the car and maximise my performance ahead of round one."
