Xentek Motorsport will be embarking on an exciting new chapter in their GT racing journey next weekend as they make their first ever appearance in the British GT Championship at Donington Park (07/08 September).
Following on from being crowned the 2024 British Endurance Championship GT4 champions together earlier this month, the South Yorkshire squad will be running Bal Sidhu and Josh Steed in their Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport for an eagerly-anticipated British GT debut for all involved.
Sidhu and Steed have proven to be a formidable Pro-Am pairing in their first season of competition together. A front-running force from the off in the British Endurance Championship, they picked up four class wins in five races to secure the GT4 crown with a race to space.
That success means Sidhu has secured back-to-back championship wins with Xentek, adding to his Ginetta GT5 Challenge Am class title last year. The West Midlands driver has gained plenty of experience in the new Porsche Cayman, also piloting the car in the Sprint Challenge GB this year.
Steed meanwhile is enjoying a fantastic return to full-time racing this season, making the step up to GT4 competition with ease. The 22-year-old talent was previously crowned the overall Ginetta GT5 Challenge champion in 2021, scoring eight race wins en-route to the title with Xentek.
The British GT Championship presents a thrilling new challenge for 10-time Ginetta champions Xentek Motorsport and their drivers. One of the world’s foremost domestic GT championships, its multi-class format for GT3 and GT4 machinery attracts grids in excess of 30 cars each round.
Sidhu and Steed’s Simply ECO-backed Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport will be the first Porsche to race in British GT this season, becoming the tenth different GT4 manufacturer to be represented on the 2024 grid alongside McLaren, Aston Martin, Mercedes, BMW, Lotus, Ginetta, Toyota, Ford and Audi.
Christopher Richards – Team Principal: “We’re delighted to be making our debut in the British GT Championship. It’s an incredibly competitive series and we’re excited to be challenging ourselves against some of the top GT teams and drivers in Europe. Bal and Josh deserve this opportunity after their brilliant performances in BEC and we’re excited to see how they get on in British GT.”
Bal Sidhu: “I’m really excited to be getting the chance to race in the British GT Championship for the first time. I’ve enjoyed making the step up to GT4 competition this season with Xentek and getting lots of experience racing in the Cayman. After our success together in BEC, I’m thrilled to be making this next step with Josh and we’re hoping to put in a competitive showing at Donington Park.”
Josh Steed: “This is an incredible opportunity for us all to take the next step up the GT ladder. I have kept a keen eye on British GT for many years and I’m absolutely buzzing to have the opportunity to compete on the most competitive GT grid in the UK. The team has shown exceptional performance this year in BEC to claim the GT4 title and I’m certain we can carry over the same efforts into British GT!”
The penultimate round of the 2024 British GT Championship at Donington Park (07/08 September) will feature a two-hour endurance race on the full Grand Prix circuit. The race will be streamed live online via the GT World YouTube channel.
It will be a busy weekend for the Xentek Motorsport team, as they dovetail their British GT debut with their successful programme in the Ginetta GT Championship with overall race-winners Luke and Conner Garlick, plus the returning Callum Noble.
